Lose Hill and Win Hill - the pointy mountain directly across the valley - are said to have been named after a Saxon battle that took place in 626 BC. Between the forces of King Edwin of Northumbria and King Cuicholm of Wessex. Edwin’s army was victorious and so ‘Win’ hill and ‘Lose’ hill were thus named.
